The Independence Community College Esports program kicked off its competitive season last week with impressive performances across multiple titles, marking a strong start to the year.

This season, ICC Esports will compete in three collegiate leagues: PCL, CCL, and ECAC. ECAC competition began last week, while PCL matches begin this week. CCL features the top collegiate Call of Duty teams in the nation.

ICC teams are competing in Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Fortnite, Rocket League, Rainbow Six Siege, and Mario Kart. Call of Duty, Smash Ultimate, and Fortnite teams were in action during the opening week, with the remaining teams set to begin competition this week.

“Starting the season this strong says a lot about the preparation and focus our students have brought into competition,” said Zachary Spraldin, ICC Esports Director. “Our teams have put in the work, and it’s exciting to see that translate into results right away. We’re competing at a high level across multiple titles, and this momentum sets the tone for what we believe will be a very successful season.”

Call of Duty (COD Gold)

ICC’s varsity Call of Duty team, COD Gold, opened the season with a dominant 3-0 victory over Emporia State. The strong start places ICC at No. 25 in the nation in collegiate Call of Duty rankings.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The Smash Ultimate team earned a 2-0 win over Herkimer Community College in ECAC play. The match was led by new recruit Keith Rehmet, who helped secure the team’s first victory of the season.

Fortnite

ICC’s Fortnite team also had a standout opening week. Competing among more than 70 teams this semester, ICC is currently ranked 9th overall in the league and 3rd within its conference after the first week of competition.

With additional teams set to debut this week, ICC Esports looks to build on early momentum and continue climbing national rankings.
